Soft Starters

During startup, motors draw current significantly above their rated values, which causes considerable stress on the power grid. This results in both grid overload and electrical/mechanical wear on motors. Such wear shortens the motor's service life significantly. To minimize these potential faults, soft starter devices have been developed.

ABB soft starters protect motors from electrical stress, thereby extending their lifespan. They achieve this by optimizing the starting current, which would otherwise cause high electrical stress when using traditional starting methods. Soft starters ensure that motors start in a controlled manner with reduced current. Compared to star-delta starting, soft starters offer key advantages such as compact size and smoother control thanks to predefined parameters matched to the connected motor.
